Eating
Taiwan has had a long history, as reflected by the diversity in their traditional dishes and foods. Although different nations came and left, their influences on theTaiwanese food culture have survived.
The Taiwanese aboriginals started things off with crops like taro and millet, which were abundant on the island.
By the 17th century, the Fujian people from Mainland China came to Taiwan and brought their influences of Southern China cuisines.
When the Japanese conquered Taiwan for 50 years, they left a huge footprint on food culture. Advanced farming techniques and cuisine styles quickly escalated Taiwan’s food quality, production and creativity.
All of these factors have made a huge impact on Taiwanese food culture today.
Every country has its own specialty foods and drinks, and Taiwan is no exception.
